Donor Privacy Policy
What Information We Collect
The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center collects and uses the following personal information provided by donors: name, address, telephone number, email address, amount donated, and donor comments. Certain federal, state, and local laws require the Pro Bono Center to keep donors’ contact and contribution level information on file for six years.
How We Use That Information
The Pro Bono Center does not sell, rent, or trade the names, telephone numbers, or email or mail addresses of our donors with third parties. The Pro Bono Center will use contact information (email, telephone number, and address) of donors for these purposes only:
- Distribute receipts for donations
- Thank donors for their donation
- Ask donors for their continued support of the Pro Bono Center
- Inform donors about upcoming Pro Bono Center activities
- Internal analysis and record keeping
- As required by law and for reporting to government agencies
- Contact donors about changes to this policy
In addition, donor names may be published in our annual report and similar materials in order to recognize the donors’ support for the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center and its services. At a donor’s request, we will not publish their names in our annual report or similar program materials.
Financial Information
The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center has established appropriate technical, physical, and organizational security procedures to protect donors’ personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized use, disclosure, or modification. These procedures are monitored and reviewed periodically and adjusted as needed and appropriate.
D.C. Bar Policy on Members’ Records
The D.C. Bar has adopted a general Policy on Use of Members’ Records and Member Communication. The policy governs the D.C. Bar’s use of members’ personal information. For a copy of the policy, please contact the D.C. Bar. In the event of any conflict between this policy and the D.C. Bar’s Policy on Use of Members’ Records and Member Communication, the provisions of this policy shall govern treatment of information about donations to the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center.
